Why I Switched to Clean Beauty Products

Let me be honest with you, until 2018 I never bothered looking at the ingredients lists on any of my beauty products. I was what I like to call, a makeup hoarder. If it was the hottest item out I would try it with no hesitation. Unfortunately, it took a tragedy to open my eyes and educate myself about what I was actually putting on and into my body.

August 2018, I miscarried our angel baby at 10 weeks. It crushed me. This was my second pregnancy and my only miscarriage. Hands down the most heartbreaking time in my life. I wanted that baby and to have it taken away so suddenly was extremely traumatic for me. Afterwards I desperately wanted to know why but no one could give me an answer. Doctors said everything looked normal, the autopsy results showed nothing wrong with our baby and two days before we had even heard a sweet heartbeat. It just wasn't meant to be.

Fast forward to the end of September. We were floored when we found out we were already expecting AGAIN! This was NOT planned. I remember so much fear rushing over me. I wanted to do everything possible to keep our little baby cooking. This is when I started to research and I found Beautycounter.

At Beautycounter, our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. We want you to feel completely confident in your daily routine, so every one of our innovative and high-performing products is made with an industry-leading standard of safety

Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.

There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.

What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day.

What I love the most about Beautycounter is our "Never List." The Never List is made up of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that we never use as ingredients in our products. This includes the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, plus additional chemicals screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern.

When I educated myself I then began to make the switch to #cleanbeauty. I started to look at the ingredients of some of my favorite products and quickly tossed them in the trash. I was shocked to read what I was putting onto my skin and into my body.

After making the switch I not only fell in love with the Beautycounter mission but I couldn't live without their products. I then made the decision to become a consultant and I've loved educating others and helping them also make the switch to cleaner beauty products.

Are you concerned about the beauty products that you are currently using? I'd love to educate you and help give you recommendations for making the switch. You can message me or shop directly at www.beautycounter.com/kandisrees.
